BACKGROUND:

The "Alliance to Stop the War on the Poor" is a recently formed coalition of civil rights, African American, faith-based, agriculture, veteran and consumer advocates who are rallying consumers against policies that raise energy prices.

Alliance leaders will charge that the soon-to-be-launched initiative by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies and Rep. Clyburn (announced here) to "engage African Americans on climate change" is an attempt by extremist environmental groups and some Congressional leaders to "muzzle" the voices of minorities concerned over the ravages of high energy prices.

Alliance leaders also will charge that several left-leaning environmental organizations are seeking to quell debate over the disproportionate impact on minorities and the poor of high energy prices and radical climate change "solutions."
